Vehicle Servicing

Manufacturer-schedule servicing for all Land Rover models. Intermediate, Annual, and Major services. Independent specialist pricing.

Davis Performance Landys has been servicing Land Rovers to manufacturer's specifications for over 30 years. As an independent specialist, we carry out the same work as a main dealer — using quality filters, fluids, and genuine or OEM-equivalent parts — without the overhead costs that flow through to servicing prices. Our workshop at 18/62 Argyle St, South Windsor has handled every Land Rover model from the early Series III through to the current Discovery Sport and Range Rover Velar.

Independent Servicing After New-Vehicle Warranty

Once your Land Rover is out of its new-vehicle warranty period, you are not required to use a main dealer for servicing. Independent servicing to manufacturer's specifications — using the correct fluids, filter grades, and service procedures — maintains your vehicle to the same standard at a lower cost. We stamp service books and keep digital service records for every vehicle we service.

Service Intervals

Land Rover has moved to a flexible service interval system on newer models, but the underlying maintenance requirements remain consistent:

  • Intermediate Service (10,000 km or 12 months) — Engine oil and filter, brake inspection, fluid level checks, tyre rotation, visual inspection of belts and hoses, check and record all warning systems
  • Annual Service (20,000 km or 12 months) — All intermediate items plus air filter, fuel filter (diesel), pollen filter, brake fluid change (2-yearly), spark plugs (petrol), full undercar inspection
  • Major Service (40,000 km intervals) — All annual items plus gearbox and differential fluid change, transfer case oil, coolant replacement, serpentine belt inspection, full brake overhaul assessment

Why Specialist Servicing Matters

Land Rovers have model-specific service requirements that general workshops regularly miss. TD5 engines require specific oil grades and the Provent oil vapour separator checked. TDV6 engines have variable valve timing components that need correct-specification oil. Older models with manual locking hubs and separate transfer case units have service items that have no equivalent on a Japanese 4WD — and a technician unfamiliar with the platform will simply overlook them.

We also check items relevant to Australian conditions during every service: air filter condition relative to recent dust exposure, cooling system integrity particularly on vehicles covering outback routes, and suspension bush condition given the corrugated road use common in the Hawkesbury and Western Sydney regions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Land Rover's standard intervals are 10,000 km or 12 months for an intermediate service, and 20,000 km or 12 months for an annual service — whichever comes first. Older models (Defender, Discovery 1 and 2) used 10,000 km oil service intervals. If you cover significant off-road kilometres, particularly in dusty conditions, we recommend shortening intervals to 7,500–10,000 km for oil and filter changes.

Yes. Under Australian consumer law, independent servicing that meets manufacturer specifications does not void a new-vehicle warranty. We use the correct service fluids, filters, and procedures, and document all work performed. If a dealer attempts to void your warranty on the basis of independent servicing, this is not legally enforceable under the Australian Consumer Law.

The Discovery 3 TDV6 (2.7L) requires 5W-30 fully synthetic oil to ACEA C3 specification, with a minimum API rating of CF. Land Rover specifies Castrol Magnatec or equivalent. Using the wrong viscosity or API rating on the TDV6 affects variable valve timing operation and can cause timing chain noise. We use the correct specification on every TDV6 service.

Yes. We stamp service records and maintain a full digital service history for every vehicle we service. For vehicles that still have a manufacturer's warranty, we document the service against manufacturer's specifications. A complete independent service history from a specialist is recognised as equivalent to a dealer service history for resale value purposes.

For a Defender TD5 at an annual service interval: engine oil (5W-30 fully synthetic), oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, Provent oil vapour separator check and element replacement if needed, brake fluid test, visual inspection of cooling system hoses and serpentine belt, brake pad and disc measurement, full undercar inspection including suspension bushes, CV boots, and prop shaft joints, tyre condition and inflation check.

Yes, typically significantly so. Main dealers carry substantial overhead costs that flow through to labour rates and parts pricing. As an independent specialist with over 30 years of Land Rover experience, we achieve the same standard of service at lower cost. The difference on a full annual service is commonly $200–$500 depending on the model and service items required.

Yes. We service all Land Rover models including the current Discovery Sport, Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Velar, and full-size Range Rover. Our diagnostic equipment covers the full model range, and we carry service items for current Ingenium diesel and petrol engines alongside the older TDV6, TDV8, TD5, and 300TDI platforms.

When booking, let us know your vehicle model, year, engine type, current odometer, and the last service date or interval completed. Also mention any warning lights, unusual noises, or specific concerns — this allows us to allocate the right time and have any non-standard items on hand.
