Get your Land Rover ready for the outback. Comprehensive pre-trip inspection before a major expedition.
A Land Rover heading into the Australian outback, a remote 4WD track, or a long-distance overland trip faces conditions that expose every weakness in the vehicle. At Davis Performance Landys, our pre-trip inspection service is a structured, thorough assessment of your vehicle's readiness — not a quick look-over, but a systematic evaluation by Land Rover specialists with over 30 years of experience understanding how these vehicles behave under sustained load in harsh conditions.
Our pre-trip inspection covers every system that affects reliability in the field. We work through the vehicle methodically, checking and testing rather than simply observing:
The heat, dust, corrugated surfaces, and remote access typical of Australian outback travel are genuinely different from what a Land Rover encounters in everyday South Windsor or Western Sydney driving. We provide specific advice on which spares are worth carrying for your route and vehicle, what recovery gear is appropriate, and whether communications equipment — including satellite devices — should be considered based on where you are going.
Book your pre-trip inspection two to four weeks before your planned departure. This allows time to address anything identified during the inspection — replacing a borderline component before a remote trip is straightforward; dealing with a failure in the field is not. Customers from across the Hawkesbury, Hills District, Penrith, and Western Sydney bring their Land Rovers to us at 18/62 Argyle St, South Windsor before heading north, west, or into remote coastal country.
Call (02) 9679 1978 or email info@davisperformance.com to book. Our 4.9-star rating from 184 Google reviews reflects the thoroughness that our customers have come to expect from this service.
Book two to four weeks before your departure date. This gives us time to inspect the vehicle properly and, critically, gives you time to have any identified issues rectified before you leave. Booking the week before a trip does not leave adequate time to address problems that may require parts to be ordered.
We check all fluids (engine, coolant, transmission, transfer case, differentials, brake fluid), belts and hoses, braking system components, tyre condition including the spare, suspension and steering components (bushes, shocks, ball joints, CV joints), electrical system including battery load test and alternator output, and cooling system integrity. We also pressure test the cooling system rather than just visually inspecting hoses.
Yes. Advice on spares is part of the pre-trip service. Recommendations depend on your specific vehicle, its condition, and your route. Common items for remote Australian travel include a spare serpentine belt, radiator hoses, fuel filters, water pump, fuses and relays, and model-specific items based on known failure points. We will give you a specific list for your vehicle.
We can provide general guidance on recovery gear appropriate to your vehicle and trip type — snatch straps, shackles, traction boards, and a suitable jack are baseline items. For remote travel, we strongly recommend carrying a satellite communication device. We can advise on options but do not supply communications equipment directly.
Yes. A standard service checks service items — oil, filters, and fluid levels. A pre-trip inspection looks specifically at components that affect reliability under the sustained stress of outback driving: suspension bush condition, CV joint wear, cooling system integrity under pressure, battery load capacity, and tyre sidewall condition. These are not the same checks and serve a different purpose.
Any trip involving remote access, unsealed roads, or travel more than roughly 500 km from the nearest Land Rover service capability. This includes outback routes (Gibb River Road, Oodnadatta Track, Simpson Desert crossings), coastal 4WD areas, and extended touring through NSW, Queensland, or further. We see vehicles from across the Hawkesbury and Western Sydney preparing for all of these.
